room creator

Make your own room

Lay out a room for Animal Jam Classic and download it as a Phantom plugin. It runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and you don’t need an account.

The creator opens in a moment.

What you get

A zipped plugin folder, the same one npm create @phantomclient/plugin makes. It builds and publishes like any other plugin.

package.json
the manifest, asking for customRooms at act
src/room.ts
the room, laid out, with its pictures imported
src/index.ts
two commands: walk in, and walk out
art/
every file, as the PNG, JPEG or SWF you chose
room.phantom.json
what this page saved, so the folder opens here again

Open the game’s own rooms

Open a .xroom file and pull it apart: its grid, doors, arrival points, bouncing areas and art. Anything a room plugin can’t hold is listed before it opens, and your file is only read.

The game’s art is SWF and browsers can’t play Flash, so it shows as named boxes at the right size.

Nothing leaves your computer

Your pictures are read in the browser and never sent anywhere. The room is saved in this browser, so you can close the tab and come back, but clearing the site’s data clears it too. The download is your copy, and it opens here again.

Use art you have the right to use. Rooms published to Phantom’s store are reviewed by a person.

What it can’t do yet

  • Playing SWFs. A SWF shows as a box at its real size until you walk into the room.
  • Props that pulse, spin, bob or play a strip of frames.
  • A hit box of its own for a prop. The room’s grid decides where people can walk.
  • Portals to Animal Jam’s own rooms, more than one arrival point, or setting how far the view scrolls.
  • Saving over one of Animal Jam’s own rooms. You get a room plugin of your own, and your .xroom is never written to.
  • Drawing characters. You can place one and dress it by def id, and the game draws it when you walk in.
  • More than one room at a time. Download a room to keep it.

Walk into it in Phantom

Install the plugin in Developer mode in the desktop app, and its command walks you in.
